Mads was white haute glamorous at Sutton’s 17th birthday party, so why did her elegant cocktail gown double as a nod to a popular movie director known for injecting the creep factor? “We kept referring to this as ‘the Tim Burton dress,'” The Lying Game’s costume designer Mimi Kaupe tell us. “The shredded layers gave it that edgy look–perfect for Mads’ character.”
Where did she spot this sweet-meets-sass match for Mads? “This was a past season Alice+Olivia dress I found at Last Call, but still paid dearly for.”
Mimi also needed to sprinkle her dressmaking magic to get the look just right.“We shortened it about six inches in the front, and left it a little longer in the back, which required quite a bit of reworking by our stitcher. I gathered the bodice in the front with a vintage brooch to give it a bit more of a princess neckline.”
