Jordyn Kane is like most 16 year olds: She’s a Belieber who loves Chick-fil-A and just got her license (congrats, Jordyn!). But this high school junior is also an incredible singer whose song played in the background when Emma danced with Sutton’s papa during the Father-Daughter Dance.
Keep reading to get the scoop on just how much Jordyn freaked after learning “Terrified” would be featured on The Lying Game’s episode “Being Sutton,” where she shops for amazing steals and who she thinks is really behind A on Pretty Little Liars.
LyingGame.com: You just passed your driver’s test. Congrats! Did you pass on the first try?
Jordyn Kane: Yes! I was sooo nervous, but I’m a safe driver, so I passed!
LG: Where was the first place you drove alone?
JK: Chick-fil-A. My favorite!
LG: Pretty Little Liars is one of your favorite shows. Have you read the books?
JK: Yes! I’m obsessed with the show. I’ve read the first two books. I’m about to start the third. They’re so addicting!
LG: Who do you think is A?
JK: Good question! I think Jenna, Jason, and Garrett hired someone to be A. It could be anyone though!
LG: Have you read The Lying Game?
JK: I’m working on the first one right now! I love it!
LG: How did you react when you first heard the news that your song would be on TV?
JK: I freaked out! This is the first time I’ve ever had a song on national television. I couldn’t believe people all over were going to hear my song!
LG: How did it feel to hear your song playing on The Lying Game? Where did you watch the episode?
JK: Honestly, the second I heard it I cried. “Terrified” was played during the perfect scene! It was really cool to hear my voice come out of my TV! Hard work really does pay off. I watched the episode with my whole family at home!
LG: Are you more like Emma or Sutton?
JK: I’m a combination of both in some ways, but I’m mostly like Emma. Emma likes to write and I love that! I write songs, and I write in a journal every day. I like that Emma really seems to appreciate all of the things she gets to do while being Sutton for a while. I think Sutton kind of takes those things for granted. I’m really thankful for all of the things I have in my life. Don’t get me wrong, I like to shop like Sutton, and I wish I had her BMW convertible!
LG: Tell us more about “Terrified.” Did you write the song? What was recording it like?
JK: “Terrified” was written by my producer, Brad Cox, and Hope Sonam. I really connect to the song and I absolutely loved it when I first heard it! It took two days to record and we had a lot of fun doing it!
LG: Tell us about your songwriting process. What inspires you?
JK: I write songs about everything going on in my life. I always start with my guitar and find a tune. Lyrics just come to me after that. I like to write songs that will inspire other people. My song “Somebody” is about people who don’t fit in, but are going to be someone someday. I wrote it when I was 12.
LG: Who are your favorite musicians?
JK: Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Travie McCoy, Lady Gaga, and of course Justin Bieber!
LG: How’s your school year going so far? What grade are you?
JK: I’m a junior! Finally an upperclassman! School is going great so far. I like my teachers, I have a class with my best friend, and it just feels good to be in 11th grade!
LG: You’re a fan of Forever 21. Where else do you like to shop?
JK: Forever 21 is definitely my favorite, but I also love PacSun, H&M, Charlotte Russe, Macy’s, Hollister, the list goes on and on!
LG: What advice do you have for other teens who dream about having their music
featured on national TV?
JK: DON’T GIVE UP! The music industry is an extremely tough business. It’s so easy to want to quit, but it’s so worth it when you hear a song you worked so hard on on a TV show!
