After Sutton was finally a free foster kid (no more germy pillows!), she wasn’t about to make a less-than-chic debut at Emma’s high school in Vegas. Putting her fashion savvy smarts to the test in “Sex, Lies and Hard Knocks High,” Sutton snipped and sewed away until she created an Oscar de la Renta knockoff out of Lexi’s mom’s old frock. Pretty impressive, right? But what’s the behind-the-scenes scoop on the dress’ drab to fab makeover?
“We needed at least 6 dresses to have enough fabric for the various stages of Sutton’s quickie creation, so we shopped with budget and multiples in mind,” The Lying Game’s costume designer Mimi Kaupe tells us. “I thought Lexi’s mom Danni might have a Jessica McClintock style maxi dress from the 80’s in her closet–complete with lace trim and huge Juliet sleeves that could easily be torn off. The end result is pretty close to the original dress that we found in a boutique in Austin, where we shoot The Lying Game.“
